e.max

IPS e.max lithium disilicate restorations exhibit superior durability featuring 360-400 MPa of flexural strength. When fabricated to full-contour, the monolithic structure is the most robust ceramic system tested to date. The opalescence, translucency, and light diffusion properties of IPS e.max lithium disilicate were all designed to replicate natural tooth structure for beauty and undetectable restorations.

The e.max family of materials allows for a consistent esthetic result whether your restoration is all ceramic, porcelain veneered zirconia, PFM, or any combination thereof.

Zirconia

Zirconia is digitally designed and milled and available three ways:

  1. as a substructure for overlaid restorations. porcelain to metal crown and bridge
  2. as a full contour monolithic crown or bridge restoration
  3. as an implant abutment

Benefits of a milled zirconia substructure with a porcelain or pressed glass veneer:

  • Esthetics
  • Strength of substructure over lithium disilicate.

Indications:

  • When a more esthetic result than porcelain fused to metal is desired.
  • When an e.max bridge is contra-indicated, e.g. the span between anterior abutments is wider than 11 mm, or the span between posterior abutments is wider than 9 mm.

Benefits of a milled zirconia full contour restoration:

  • Esthetics over metal
  • Strength
  • Minimal wear of opposing

Indications:

  • Full contour zirconia is a more esthetic solution than metal for situations where the patient needs the ultimate in strength due to lack of inter-occlusal space, or the patient is a bruxer. Click here to read a study on the wear of polished and glazed zirconia on enamel.
